RESEARCH INTERESTS

Cell Biology of Cornea

We are trying to look at cellular factors that enhance transparency in the cornea. If we can identify novel factors that help in maintaining transparency in cornea, they can be targeted for therapeutic use to treat corneal diseases.

Analyzing Evolution and Function of Stop Codon in Mammals

We are looking for different aspects of how stop codons appeared or disappeared in different species during the course of evolution

Translation Readthrough

We are working on novel genes which undergo programmed translation readthrough in mammals and trying to understand their biological significance of the readthrough protein using cell culture and mouse models

Translation Readthrough as A Therapeutic

We are developing methodologies to induce translation readthrough across disease-causing premature stop codons in a number of diseases in-vivo.
